  3. Origin • Planned by Septimius Severus • Built and finished by Emperor Caracalla (son) • Finished around 216 A.D. • Built for the people Rome to use for sanitation, exercise, and social reasons

  4. Importance • Built like all Roman Baths • Three bathing rooms • 2nd largest bath in Rome to Baths of Trajan • Olympic sized swimming pool • Two large outdoor gymnastics areas for exercise • Two libraries • Large gardens
