HCAL DPG Status Olga Kodolova Frank Chlebana HCAL General Meeting July 14, 2011
Outlook Calibration status 25 ns WG Plan for tests with HF timing after TS
Calibration status • - Phisym re-calibration of HF after sleeves exchange was done (Igor/Olga). • PVT requested this tag being tested by JetMET and PF. • Request was sent to JetMET POG and is on going. • - Isotrack re-calibration is on going (Anton) • Absolute scale calibration for HF with Z->ee, g/Z+jet is on going (Jeremy/Nural). • We expect the update on absolute scale both HBHE and HF on Monday, 18th of July - aim to get it ready in the second half of July.
Calibration specific • - Observation of the drift of HPD gains (~2%/month) – Pawel/Dima • We re-install phisym now. Need to monitor with LED and update calibration each month if it is outside the tolerance (Pawel/Dima) • Seems, no such problems with PMT • - CASTOR - calibration with muon flux • First calibration was done (Ekaterine) • - ZDC - neutrons (Michael)
25 ns WG • WG to study HCAL with 25 ns bunch spacing was setup • Slawek Tkaczyk agreed to organize this group • We suppose weekly meetings for ~1 hour: extended HCAL DPG meeting and 1 hour meeting in the alternate weeks from 15:30-16:30. • Regular short status (5-10 minutes) reports from particular tasks • Extended meeting at the end of August-beginning of September
25 ns WG • No special twiki but minutes will be posted each week to indico agenda • E-mail exchange through the regular HCAL DPG mail list with [25 ns WG] in subject
Scope of WG work - I • Data volume (in particular HF, but also check for HBHE) • A few options for HF is considered (J.Mans talk at 25 ns WG) • more FED – maximum 3 additional DCC- require recabling/remapping. • data format change – require coincidence with SW releases • number of TS change – can be done now • combinations of the proposed options
Scope of WG work - II • L1 Trigger study (Greg and Tutanon) • Pileup subtraction algorithm for TPs • Approach may appear to be different for HBHE and HF. If we use 1 TS for HF we may not need to do pileup subtraction. • Algorithm exists both in L1 emulator and Firmware but was not enough tested • First test with the current data will be presented at HCAL DPG extended meeting on the 18th of July.
Scope of WG work - III • Reconstruction of HBHE/HF signals (PFG group under leadership of Shuichi) • Study of pulse shape/phase settings/number of TSs/Noise (together with Noise WG) • Task list was presented by Shuichi at 25 ns WG • meeting (11th of July) • Volunteers are welcome • Regular weekly PFG2 meetings (Tuesday, 17:00) • Mini-workshop at the end of August (22-26).
Scope of WG work - IV • Simulation • Pulse shape and phase in MC should be verified/tuned to reflect data • Start to be crucial as we suppose to reduce number of TSs in HBHE and correct for the leakage • Calibration methods and workflow • What and how we should change for 25 ns
HF timing (plan for test after Technical Stop) Two options (depends on the accelerator plans): • Do HF scan without CMS magnet will use 50 bunch (1st point) and 268 bunch (2nd point) No use of HLT menu Interfill menu + technical bit 8 No BX-1 veto NZS only for HF
Continuation • 2. Wait until magnet is on • 2 &50 bunch (1st point) fill and 268 bunch (2nd point) • Special L1&HLT menu • Disable HLT filters • No BX-1 veto • NZS only for HF • This option may be preferable but we depend on • The machine schedule
Other items • Pledges: we sent e-mail and got 12 responses • We start to build repository with the approved material. The review will be on Monday, July 18.
