Bethany's Directions Hi Jacqueline, Here are my plans for both 1/2 & 5/6: (** LT: I can discuss what I know about characters in a text. **) 1.) Conduct an open discussion with all students in my group about the main characters, their traits, and how each distinctly shapes the novel. We will be speaking, of course, with higher order learning in mind, so students must be able to back up their opinions. This section would ideally be somewhat brief in length, taking up less than half of the allotted time for the activity. (I want to be flexible, though, should a group be particularly unresponsive, or very interested in conversing, thus requiring more or less time than initially planned.) 2.) Depending on the proceedings of the above criteria, I would like to expand upon our discussion by completing a "chart a conversation" activity. (See attached file.) Having paid close attention to the input of their peers, and hopefully having contributed to the conversation in a meaningful way, I would like each student to provide only one answer to each charted category (I Like, I Dislike, Patterns, Problems or Puzzles), and it must be as unique to their viewpoints on the novel as possible. The group will use the remaining time to share responses, and to add to their own lists as we share. (If the first chat takes up more time than anticipated, we will likely complete charts in groups, versus individually. Spot modification!)
