2. The Canterbury Tales • In The Canterbury Tales the pardoner has a good business in the selling of forgiveness. Certainly modern Americans continue to do wrong and lose the trust and love of others. Although we may not purchase a pardon from a pardoner, there must be ways of making amends for our transgressions and sins even without a religious ceremony. What are ways in which modern Americans gain pardon for their public “sins”?

3. The Canterbury Tales • “The Pardoner’s Tale” is told by a character who profits from the sins of others by selling them the ease of mind of forgiveness or pardons for their transgressions. The pardoner himself as well as many of his customers are lead astray by the attraction of wealth or even simple profit. Greed is a universal theme in literature as well as an enduring human motivation. Discuss your beliefs in regard to the maxim “Love of money is the root of all evil”
