  2. Welcome to Week #3 Marking Period 2 During this marking period, you should continue to do the following each day: • Summarize a current event • Work through BBC Ma France • Read some of La Joconde Once a week, you should: • Post to the Edmodo message board.

  3. This Week’s Test • This week’s test will be on Friday. • You should be familiar with: • 1. La Joconde Chapter 11 • 2. Le Passé Composé of Regular ER Verbs • 3. 25 adjectives from le portrait moral section.

  4. Le Vol de La Joconde Ch. 11 • Monday: Visit http://quizlet.com/19405010/le-vol-de-la-joconde-ch-11-flash-cards/ Write down the words and listen to the pronunciation before you start reading the chapter. • Tues: Practice the vocabulary by visiting: http://quizlet.com/19405010/learn. • Weds: Practice the words at this site:http://quizlet.com/19405010/speller • Thurs: Play the vocab games on the Quizlet website. • Read a little of Chapter 11 each day. Finish reading it on Thursday.

Monday Vocabulary • Visit: http://www.laits.utexas.edu/fi/html/voc/04.html#030 • Listen to the vocabulary in the sections Le portrait moral and les adjectifs qui précèdent le nom. • Visit http://quizlet.com/30690212/independent-french-adjectives-flash-cards/ • These are the 25 adjectives from Le portrait moral that you will be tested on this week. • You will not be tested on the adjectives that go in front of the noun this week, but you should start getting familiar with them.

  10. Review of the Passé Composé • The Passé Composé is a past tense. • It expresses an action that happened once, in the past. • The Passé Composé is made up of two verbs: • 1. A helping verb (avoir) • 2. The past participle

Verb 1: The Helping Verb (Avoir) • The helping verb is conjugated in the present tense to match the subject. • Review the conjugation of avoir. • J’ai = I have Nous avons= We have • Tu as = You (inf) have Vous avez= You (form) have • Il a = He has Ils ont = They (m) have • Elle a = She has Elles ont = They (f) have • On a = One has

  12. Verb 2: The Past Participle • We will first review the past participle of regular ER verbs. • You form the past participle by taking off the ER ending and adding é to the end of the verb.

  13. Examples 1. Nous avons mangé la glace. We ate ice cream /We did eat ice cream./ We have eaten ice cream. 2. J’ai visité Paris. I visited Paris. / I did visit Paris./ I have visited Paris.

  14. A Closer Look • J’aimangé la pizza. • Ai is the helping verb. It is the je form of the verb avoir. The helping verb should always match the subject. • Mangé is the past participle. To form the past participle you will always remove the ER and add é. The past participle is not conjugated to match the subject.

Wednesday: Check your answers. • .J’ai chanté à l’école mercredi. • .Elles ont étudié à la bibliothèque parce qu’elles sont ambitieuses. • .Il est de bonne humeur parce qu’il a joué au football américain aujourd’hui. • .Nous avons joué au volley parce que nous sommes compétitifs. • .La femme généreuse a donné cinq cent dollars à l’église. • .Elle n’a pas parlé à Thomas parce qu’il est arrogant.

  20. Thursday: Write in French. • .Are you (formal, masculine) curious? • .We watched T.V. at Claude’s house. • .She is crazy. She ate twenty escargots. • .They (f) worked all the time because they are ambitious. • .He is in a good mood because he played soccer today.
