  1. The Salem Witch Trials Katie Kelly (: Mrs. Martin’s 3rd Period Date 10/14/11

  2. Intro page 1 Witches were feared in Europe since the 12th century. This has gone on for four hundred years . Over a thousand have been accused and arrested for using witch craft. In 1692 Salem was divide up into two areas Salem town and Salem Village. Around that time news traveled from Europe to Salem that people were starting to use witch craft. A couple of months later girls claimed to see Witches, Devils , and Spirits.

  3. Into page 2 People that were accused of witch craft were thrown in jail and had to wait for there trials. When the trials came if you did not confess to using witch craft you were dunked in a cold river or beaten until you died . During this time 24 people were killed . 19 were hung , 1 pressed to death and 1 died in jail.

  4. Cotton Mather's Cotton Mather's was born in 1663 In Boston . When he was a kid he was Pressured to be a strict puritan, and to become a minister, just like his father. By the time he was a teen he already knew several languages. He had 14 kids, He had thought 4 of his kids were under a spell by his washer women Mary Clover.   5. Tituba Tituba was a slave that was owned by Samuel Parris . Samuel had bought her and her husband in 1670. Her job was to clean and take care of his girls . When she was with the girls she would tell them stories about her life. But then the girls accused Tituba of witch craft .   6. Elizabeth Parris Elizabeth or also known as Betty. Was born in 1682 and was brought to Salem at the age of 7 with her family. Her friends and Elizabeth would stare into a fire and see who would get married first. Elizabeth was the first one to start acting different. When they would pray she would have a fit and she would throw her Bible across the room. Her father thought she had been be witched .   7. Annie Putnam Annie had a trouble home life. Her father was always fighting with the neighbors over a property line, and her mother was dealing with grief from a miscarriage, and the lost of her sister. Her mother would secretly try to contact her sister. Anne made frequent trips to her grave.   8. Bridget Bishop • By the age of 27 she has been married 3 times. Two of her husbands died mysteriously. She use to dress in bright clothing. She also had a hot temper and flirts with a lot of guys. She was married to Oliver who later accused her of witch craft. She was judged innocent until they were doing house construction on her house and found dolls with needles in them in her wall.   9. Conclusion In conclusion I think the witch trials where a horrible part in American history. Innocent people were killed because they had believed in something different . This has also helped today because we now have freedom of religion .
