Year 10 Information Evening MATHEMATICS STANDARD MATHEMATICS ADVANCED MATHEMATICS EXTENSION 1
Mathematics Standard • Contains content similar to that covered in Stage 5, including topics such as Algebra, Measurement, Statistics and Financial Maths • Chosen by students who have aspirations of undertaking further studies that require 2 units of Mathematics • Leads into Standard 1 and 2 in Year 12 • Recommended for students who completed 5.1 and 5.2 outcomes this year.
Mathematics Advanced • Course has basis grounded in Calculus, Geometry, Series, Functions, Algebra and Trigonometry • Aimed at students who have knowledge and skills in the 5.3 content, focusing on high ability in Algebra • Chosen by students who have aspirations of undertaking further studies in Maths based courses, eg. Engineering • Will contain new content and vocabulary not used in Stage 5 • Some students find the course too challenging and change course during Year 11 to Mathematics Standard
Mathematics Extension 1 • Highest difficulty on Maths on offer for Year 11 students • Aimed at students who have extensive knowledge of the 5.3 stage 5 course • Chosen by students who have aspirations of undertaking further studies in Maths based courses, eg. Engerineeing • Course is heavily based on Calculus, Logarithms, Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry • Completion of this course leads into possible study of the Extension 2 course
