Olivijnhoudende duinenvelden en rotswand in Coprates Chasma Olivijn is sterk onderhevig aan verwering door watergerelateerde processen, zodat mag worden aangenomen dat deze duinen en het puin van de wand zijn ontstaan na dergelijke processen. Interessant is dat hoger in de wand kleimineralen (zogeheten fylosilicaten) zijn gedetecteerd, wat erop wijst dat in het verre verleden aantasting van het wandmateriaal door watergerelateerde processen heeft plaatsgevonden. uahirise.org/nl/ESP_023806_1645
