Education and Early Years • Most of Brunelleschi’s early years were a mystery • It is known he was the second of three of three sons and his father was a distinguished notary in Florence. • He initially trained as a goldsmith and sculptor and enrolled in the Arte della Seta, the silk merchants guild. • Around the turn of the century, he was designated a master goldsmith • He then got married to his wife Giuliana Spini in 1401.

Major Works • His most famous work of architecture was the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (the Duomo) in Florence.
