Recap • وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَذَا بَلَدًا آمِنًا وَارْزُقْ أَهْلَهُ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ مَنْ آمَنَ مِنْهُم بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ قَالَ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَأُمَتِّعُهُ قَلِيلاً ثُمَّ أَضْطَرُّهُ إِلَى عَذَابِ النَّارِ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ(126) • رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِيهِمْ رَسُولاً مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ(129) • Surat Al Feel: Peace • Surat Quraish: Prosperity • Al Maun: Reality Check

Surat Al Kawthar • إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ • فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ • إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الأَبْتَرُ • Talks about the favors of Allah on His messenger • The Prophet is granted elevation in dunya until the day of judgment • After favors you are expected to become a slave • The enemies of Allah will be cut from any form of good (Maun)

Link Between Maun and Kawthar • Surat Al Maun described 4 characteristics of hypocrites: • Greed/ miserly • No Importance of Prayer • Showing off • Don’t give smallest charity • The contrast is given in Surat Al Kawthar: • We gave you abundant good so give a lot and don’t be greedy • Be constant in prayer • Ikhlas • Sacrifice: spend on animal then give charity

  5. إنا • Certainly We, We have given you abundance good • Reminder, to give importance, tawkid, to remove doubt • Abulahab: the Prophet’s neighbor • Qasim then Abdulla • Quraish kept saying Prophet has nothing • Allah corrects thisand consoles the Prophet • The patience of the Prophet: dawah and sacrifice • Only we have given it to you • No one can take it away • They’ve got nothing • Figure of speech: Shows power and majesty, changes to لربك • Shows intimacy and love: prayer, sacrifice

  6. أعطيناك • آتى: to give but comes with responsibility (mulk, kitab) • أعطى: to give the unexpected, very big, cannot be taken back, no strings attached (enjoy) • Past tense: for sure, done, he could see it • To hand over with one’s own hands

  7. الكوثر • A river in Jannah, fountain • Abundance good (الخير الكثير) • Many followers, drinkers, lots of drink will have lots of benefit • Prophet-hood seal • Best character • Mercy: SuratTawbah • Quran: See vs Hear, preservation • Justice • Victory: 23 yrs, other prophets didn’t have it, best example • Honors: Qibla, maqamanmahmood, shafa’a, called by name • إن الله وملائكته يصلون على النبى يا أيها الذين آمنوا صلوا عليه وسلموا تسليما • Katheer can be good or bad, kawthar is only good • After all this good, how do you thank Allah?

  8. فصل • Iqamat Al Salah (thank Allah) • External and internal slavery • Our hearts like earth, need rain • Ibadah: love and humbleness
