Outdoor First Care Program: Enhancing Medical Training for Outdoor Enthusiasts

Developed by the NSP Medical Advisors, this program introduces a new approach to outdoor medical training. The program includes online and practical components, catering to organizations such as Mountain Host programs, Boy Scouts, and mountain bike associations. Facilitated by OEC Instructors, the 12-hour certification program aims to enhance medical response in outdoor settings. Affiliates will have access to the program, with recertification required every three years. The National Test Bank review committee has completed a new test for the 2012-2013 period. Results show a high pass rate in the OEC 5th Test, indicating the effectiveness of the Senior OEC Module TE certification program. The program aims to distribute test scenarios to supervisors for implementation. Dr. David Johe's article compares OEC and EMT training, emphasizing the unique aspects of OEC in handling snowsports injuries and suggesting the addition of EMTs for non-snowsports-related medical issues.
