Meeting Objectives • Detail TN contributions to “GEF 2” effort • Proposed project components • CI/TN organization in project • Discuss how to build on accomplishments (and address challenges) raised during IT meeting in “GEF 2” effort • Discuss other TN fundraising efforts • Brainstorming for cross-TN/outside fundraising partnerships

  3. “GEF 1” Background • Implementation Aug 04-June 2011 (including one year extension) • All expenditures must be finalized by June 30, 2011 • Five Components--$6,000,000 • Interoperability and Access to Data—29% • Data Content Grants—41% • Tools for Decision Making—8% • Sustainability—13% • Administration—7%

  4. “GEF 2” Effort • Discussed at IABIN Council in DR • “First Draft” completed, Feb 2010 • Distributed to IEC, CIs, TNs, March-April 2010 for comments • Met with OAS UNEP Rep May 2010 • New version distributed last week

  5. “GEF 2” Strategies • Investigating UNEP as implementing Agency • Important to make project sufficiently “different” from GEF 1 • Changes in GEF country allocation/approval

  6. TNs’ Roles in “GEF 2” • Building on GEF 1 accomplishments (and addressing challenges) • Leadership, coordination in IABIN • Interaction with Council, countries, decision makers • New developments/activities/needs • Impacts for countries, policy makers • Discussion
