7. Work Period: MGRP 7 • Overview: You will create a Multi-Genre Research Project as your unit project for Expository Writing. This will be counted as many grades and your Expository project grade so be sure to DO ALL OF YOUR BEST WORK possible.

What is a Multi-Genre Research Project? 9 • A multi-genre research project is a portfolio of your writing. • Each piece of writing will be of a different type (letter, essay, advertisement, etc.) but it is still an expression of Expository Writing. • You will have to do some research both in class (through notes and computer time) and outside of class in order to be successful with this project.

20. Explanation Essay Example 20 • Nadia P. Williams ENGL 7750 Dr. Levy Fall 2010 A title like The Hunger Games could put anyone off. Having glanced at this book at my school’s book fair at least once per visit, I was certainly intrigued, however the inside cover provided me with little motivation to read the book, let alone the subsequent titles. Three years after that first viewing, I was hooked, seeing what truly was so addictive about this title. The tale covers a variety of thematic elements such as love, poverty, the role of a teenager, the definition of family, humanity, among numerous others. I sought to explore the vein in which the book addresses peaceful protest as the acts seen as subversive were really expressions of love, respect, and honor which were characteristics of peaceful protest throughout the ages.

23. Sample Post-Note 23 Post-Note: “Meeting of the Mines” Poster I found that as this poster took form, it was very evocative of a modern spin on old World War II-era propaganda posters. Its stark lines, bold colors, simple, sans-serif font really suggests the need to be straight to the point. As a brief side note, I did notice after the fact that the color choices I gravitated toward were those of the German flag. Perhaps subconsciously these colors stand for everything the Districts were fighting for. Given that the people in the Districts were working up to rebel against The Capitol which was the symbol of excess, shallowness, and superfluous frills within Panem while many starved. Such a no-frills subversive meeting would have to take place hidden completely or just hidden in plain sight in order to gain strength.

25. Another Sample Post-Note 25 Post-Note: “Who is ‘The Girl on Fire” Article After creating this article, I considered changing it to have a more direct connection to the theme of peaceful protest. I sat on the idea of altering this for days upon days until finally I realized that it is sufficient. As is indicated in my pre-note, there is some mention of the poisonous berries which was considered by President Snow to be an act of rebellion. However, I feel this article really touches upon the ways in which information is passed along about the next notable person. Articles were written about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcom X, Mahatma Ghandi, and many others. As the saying goes, “all press is good press” and I tend to agree because whether positive or negative, the attention given to such persons only adds fuel to the fire of their cause, especially for those who seek to fully understand their cause.
