POLYTECHNIC OF ZAGREB • Grounded by Croatian government in 1998 from: • College of Electrical Enginering “Rade Končar” • (grounded 1962) • Higer School for Civil Engineering (with more than 40 years of tradition) • Currently around 3600 students studing at TVZ • Up to now more than 4235 graduated • 760 undergraduate and 300 graduate students are enrolled each year

Professional courses for Certified Engineers in Civil Engineering certified by Ministry of Environmental Protection, Physical Planning and Construction Net academy (CISCO academy) best academy in EMEA 2005-2007

Current state of teching process according to: • Obligatory attendance to classes • Availability of teaching material on TVZ web site • Transparent testing and conditions on passing the exam on TVZ web site • Permanent checking of students (tests, mid term exams etc.) • Both for lectures and execises (auditory, lab, design, seminar etc.)

  9. Professional Study in Civil Engineering: • 4 groups of courses are offered in this programme: • Building Construction • Civil Engineering (Water and traffic infrastructure) • Civil and Environmental Engineering • Management in Civil Engineering

  10. Professional Study in Electrical Engineering: This study programme is offering 3 groups of courses •Electrical power engineering •Control and computer engineering in automation •Communication and computer technology

Professional Study in Informatics: • In the 2nd year the student decides on a programme: • Office Organization and Informatization • E-business • IT Design Professional Study in Computing: • The study programme is divided into two specialist course areas: • Software Engineering • Computer Systems and Network Engineering

Activities within adjusting to Bologna process: • Statute of Studying adjusted to Bologna process requirements (rights and obligations of students and teachers during the teaching process defined in details) • Permanent checking of students (mid term exams, tests, homeworks, seminars etc. varying from 47% to 71%) • Intensive activities of Student organization (SZTVZ – Studentski zbor TVZ active student representatives in Teaching Councils, work on materials for freshmens, cooperation on preparing and continous presence during the University Fair (Smotra Sveučilišta) • Traditionaly good relations with industry sector (part of courses in company labs, agreements for practical work of students in companies carried out each year) • Easily recognized and well employed graduates • Annonimous Questionare about courses and teachers performance

Main problems: • LACK OF SPACE (only one of 3 locations of TVZ is completely owned by TVZ) • VARIOUS LOCATIONS FOR TEACHING (2 studies held on 3 locations – Voltino, FSB and Vrbik) • Change of well known and well recognized degrees – graduates unrecognizable on market • Mobility within Croatia and abroad

Goals for next term – towards 100% continous learning process: • Less direct teaching, more independent work of students • Even more obligatory practical work in companies • Statute of Quality Assurance • Building of Quality System based on questionares • Even closer cooperation with Student Council SZTVZ • Awarding contionous work of student by passing the exam • Complete removal of regular examination periods • Mobility within Croatia and abroad

  18. Conclusins: • We are satisfied with changes in teaching process • Main tasks: Quality assurance, mobility of students, towards 100% contionus learning process • Main problems: space, mobility of students, recognition of graduation degrees on market
