What is a computer network? • A network is a group or two or more computers linked together. There are many different kinds of networks. They all transfer different kinds of data.
Different Kinds Of Networks • There is many different kind of networks • PSTN- telephone service • Client/Server networks- model relationship • LAN- Local area network • Wan- wide area network • Intranet • Extranet • Internet
Network Types • LAN- connect personal computers, work stations, and other devices. • WLAN- a wireless area network. • WAN- It covers a large geographical area and can contain communication links across metropolitan, regional, or national boundaries.
Hardware for networking? • You need these things for your network • A modem • Cable Modem • DSL • T-1 line • WISPS
Risks of network computing? • There are hackers. These are people who break into computer systems. • Individual loss of autonomy • Malicious Code • Network Faults
Security Issues? • Keeping data safe. • Risks are natural causes, accidents, and others are intentional. • To prevent this put safeguards up. These include passwords, firewalls, proxy server, and antivirus software.
