STONES Stone information during the open forum this afternoon
ICE We need a better definition than: “Fast and swingy” to hand over to the Chief Ice Technicians we use
ICE WCF’s Definition of Competition Ice: The ice has to be keen and honest. The ice should have a movement and speed that gives advantages to the player's skill and also gives the guarantee of an interesting game.
Differentmovements Parabolic curl 4 feet guard on 2 meters Aggressive curl with dive 4 feet guard on 0,5 meters Aggressive curl with no dive 4 feetguard on 0,5 meters
ICE The WCF demands these Ice Conditions: • The curl should be between 4 and 5 feet (no more, no less) and with aggressive movement without “dive” at the end. • The speed should be between 24-25 seconds (no more, no less) hog line to tee line. • The surface should be keen and easy to sweep. The above conditions should stay during the whole competition To be a WCF Chief Ice Technician these demands should be followed.

R&D STONES • R&D about stones is presented during the open meeting this afternoon
R&D ICE • This gives wet friction On the top of all ice crystals there is an extreme thin water-like film As colder as thinner A hair is approx. 50 um thick = 500-50 000 ggr thicker than the water film Thin watery film app. 0,002-0,1 um Hair Ice Crystal
R&D ICE • Wet friction is a prerequisite to have a curling stone to curl. • But why will a curling stone curl?
R&D ICE • On wet friction surfaces the friction coefficient changes with the speed and the temperature
