Task: React to flares. Task # 071-326-0511 Conditions: Given a tactical situation at night, upon hearing a flare rising or when suddenly illuminated by a ground or overhead flare. Standards: React to a ground or an overhead flare without being seen by the enemy or losing night vision IAW FM 21-75.
Risk Assessment • Low In case of an emergency exit through double doors and and form up on Dean field. All soldiers an DoD employes are responsible for protecting the enviorment.

Respond to Ground Flares • Move out of the illuminated area. • Reorient yourself when alone or in a group by SOP, or as instructed. • Continue the mission.
Respond to an overhead flare with warning • Assume the prone position (behind concealment when available) before the flare bursts. • Protect your night vision by closing one eye and observing with the other. • Use your night vision eye to reorient yourself or rejoin your group when the flare burns out. • Continue the mission.
Respond to an overhead flare without warning • Assume the prone position behind concealment (when available) until the flare burns out. • Protect your night vision by closing one eye and observing with the other. • Crouch low until the flare burns out when crossing wire obstacles where the prone position is not possible. • Use your night vision eye to reorient yourself or rejoin your group when the flare burns out. • Continue the mission.
