Aggression • Any action that is intended to injure, harm, or inflict pain on another living being or group • Could be physical, or verbal hostility • Eg. Yelling, road rage, child abuse, war • Frustration aggressive behaviour • If you cant control frustration, you become aggressive.
Aggression • Differential Association Theory –Individuals learn the values, attitudes, techniques and motives for criminal behaviour through the interaction with others. • i.e., aggression and violence are learned – you hang with criminals, you are a criminal
Aggression • Dehumanization • Deprive people of human qualities • Makes it easier to commit crimes • Slavery dehumanizes slaves by making them property
Bullying • Overt or subtle forms of aggression. Can range from physical violence to rumours to harassment • Victim may develop anxiety, depression, suicide • Can be verbal (name calling), physical (hitting), social (exclusion from groups), theft, cyber
Bullying • Cyberbullying – Bullying using technology. Eg., photos, webvideo • Different because it is 24/7, may be anonymous, easier for people to join in and bully
