Lions Report – Gregory Hayes was in the hospital briefly today for a suspected heart attack. Fortunately, it was a false alarm. If you are ill or know a fellow Lion that is under the weather, please call Pat Bryan at 586-4535.
Pat then passed a sympathy card around for us to sign for Byron balbach whose mother had recently passed away.
Program – Jay Hoeflinger introduced our speaker, Kathie Spegal, Interim Coordinator, Illinois Radio Reader Service, 300 N. Goodwin Avenue, Urbana IL 61801. Kathie graduated from the University of Kentucky and Miami of Ohio University with degrees in education. She taught school, raised 3 children, worked for Girl Scouts of the USA for 18 years, for Planned Parenthood in Champaign as Director of Education, and as a Case Manager for Prairie Center in the Drug Court Program. Currently, she is Interim Director of the Radio Reader Program. She loves to sing and garden.
Our club has taken on the Radio Reader Program as one of its activities.
It is a statewide program that helps those who cannot read for different reasons, not just blindness.
They are on 24-hours per day at http://will.illinois.edu/illinoisradioreader
Some of the material is downloaded from online and they try to keep a wide-variety of topics.
The receiver is a physical radio that is preset and is mailed free to those who qualify.
You can also now listen online through the computer at http://will.illinois.edu/illinoisradioreader/player/illinois-radio-reader1
For more information about volunteering, you may call them at 217-333-6503.
Tail Twister– Tom Yaxley asked Rich Suchomski to carry the bucket.
Bob Tuchel for having been gone so long and just now getting back to the club;
He then read some funny thoughts, such as “Order a ‘diet water’ with a straight face.”
