Working with secondary school pupils • Linking secondary schools and local employers • Energy as a theme for work experience • Students learn about energy efficiency, and: • - apply it to school building and behaviour • - raise awareness in local businesses
WAG Community Action for Climate Change: Pathfinder Programme • Part of the WAG’s broader programme of work to support community led work on climate action (Climate Change Strategy for Wales, Oct 2010) • 6 Pathfinder Officers hosted by Local Authorities across Wales • 22 month programme starting on March 1st 2011 • Best Practice for local delivery of Community Carbon Saving schemes (energy, transport, food & water) • Trial and research – different approaches to community engagement, behaviour change and scheme delivery • Mapping, data collection on areas of activity/inactivity • Creation of Pan-Wales Steering Group linking active groups and communities across sectors e.g. Community Action for Climate Change Networks • Collaboration and exchange of Best Practice

Pathfinder Officers • Map communities groups already engaged in Climate Change action • Map those with potential or demonstrate potential • Record of carbon reduction work (energy, transport, food & water) • Specific community groups identified to reduce footprint • Baseline data of carbon footprint of willing communities • A carbon reduction target of 10 – 20% of willing community
Pathfinder: Timeline Targets Oct – Dec 10: Contract agreement / roles / job descriptions / recruitment / commission research & evaluation Dec 10 – Feb 11: Establish steering group / action research framework & PO training/ selection criteria for pilots / framework for community mapping Mar 11: PO’s start / induction & training Mar – April 11: Mapping communities / PO and all Wales DO’s event May 11: First Steering Group meeting May – June 11: Willing communities identified & pilots agreed May 11 – Sept 12: Supporting projects, on-going learning & recording May 11 – Sept 12: Research framework, reporting results & dissemination learning Oct 12: First draft of framework Dec 12: Framework complete and signed off
