Random Process • A process where an individual outcome is unpredictable. • Examples: • Rolling a standard die • Drawing a card from a deck
Outcome • The result of a probability trial • Examples: • Hannah has 5 cards, and has a pair of kings • Ryan flips a quarter and gets heads side up
Event • Consists of one or more probability outcomes. • Simple Event:only one outcome • Compound Event:more than one outcomes are combined
Experimental Probability • Probabilities based on trials and observations
Theoretical Probability • Probabilities based on calculating the total possible outcomes and the outcomes of the desired event.
Example • Find the number of equally likely outcomes of each event described for a roll of two fair dice. Then write the probability of each event.
