INTRODUCTION Aims at establishing an integratednetwork of national and international agencies for sharing knowledge and data • It presents a strong potential to make statistical data and expertise available worldwide as well as raise awareness on important issues such as food security in : • emergency situations • environmental situations • critical economic situations it is extremely adaptable and useful to facilitate collaboration between stakeholders on a variety of topics and to strengthen the process of decision making The New CountrySTAT network
INTRODUCTION It is based on four main components: the technological means to manage and share data the institutional framework for establishing partnership among data providing institutions and data governance the statistical and sector-specific know-how to guarantee the data quality – the importance of metadata the knowledge required to develop simple analyses using available data The New CountrySTAT network

Strategic approach of the new system Data compilation, harmonization and dissemination, key activities since the beginning of the CountrySTAT project: are maintained and strengthened However no pre-defined structure is promoted and implemented These are directly defined by the beneficiaries and partners themselves
Strategic approach of the new system The process of defining the user needs requires a thorough understanding of the subjects under consideration and a good knowledge of existing systems, practices, data and methodologies The commitment and the active involvement of national / regional partners in the system planning and in the implementation of activities is essential
Strategic approach to the new system The new CountrySTAT aims at strengthening collaboration and synergies with agencies and international initiatives, such as AMIS, UNECA, IFAD, SADC, IMF, etc. on different areas such as sharing of data, assistance at the country level, methodological improvements, etc. Data is distributed as a public, and therefore the information available in the system is accessible easily and widely.
