Day of Pink International Day of Pink raises awareness and shows our support of diversity by wearing a pink shirt and participating in school-based activities • School-wide involvement in a variety of activities • All classes challenged to wear pink • Posters throughout school sharing “what is diversity”?

  4. Jump Rope For Heart École Dufferin has consistently supported Jump Rope For Heart by participating and raising funds for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. • Last year, École Dufferin raised just under $9 000.00 for the Heart & Stroke Foundation • Instead of prizes, we decided to receive Scholars’Choice giftcertificates which gave us the opportunity to purchase $1 000.00 worth of math manipulatives for our school

  5. This year, we have raised over $8 500.00 even before the event. We hope to match or better last year’s efforts.

  6. Free the Children Free the Children is an International Organization that, through leadership training at home and community development projects abroad, empowers youth everywhere to make a difference. Tangible opportunities for students to take action on global, social and environmental issues are provided through locally and internationally developed programs. Youth coordinators provides one-on-one support to youth and teachers in their volunteerism, advocacy, awareness raising and fundraising efforts, regardless of their passion and cause. On May 20th @ 11:45 a.m. in the gym, Bria Wilbur will be speaking to our students about the Free the Children organization. Please feel free to attend.

  7. Support to Japan Japan recently suffered devastating earthquakes, tsunamis and are now dealing with all the consequences of these awful unforeseen events. Over $450 raised on Pyjama Day and sent to the Red Cross to assist in Japan.

  8. Support to Haiti After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, our school went to work and did a penny drive. Students, parents and staff generously contributed monies ~ École Dufferin sent over $1 300.00 to World Vision, specifically for medical aid to children.

  9. Terry Fox Run Each year, Dufferin students walk or run in support of Terry Fox. Our children readily contribute funds as well to this very worthwhile cause. Over $600.00 was raised this year in the 30th year of the Terry Fox Run….congratulations École Dufferin Next year’s run is Sept. 28th

  10. Revitalization Committee Our Committee is part of the Dufferin Parent Council, working to enhance the outside of our school for instructional time, free time, and overall “curb appeal”. For the benefit of students and community alike, we will… • Move the portables and the fitness centre in order to enlarge the parking lot • Add a handicap parking space close to the front door • Enhance the front of the school with trees and a path • Provide an outdoor seating area under the pine trees • Replace all of the pea gravel with an alternate soft-fall surface, and • Build a small soccer field – with grass!!!!

Food Bank In November / December, our school participated for the second year in making a FOOD SCULPTURE – a way to raise awareness of the need for donations to the Food Bank, participate in a community initiative, and just have some fun. Every class contributed dry goods by staging a variety of activities…we sent in over 10 HUGE baskets of food!

  12. Penny Drive for Light a Smile Mme Finley explained how the children's hard work would allow her to adopt 2 different families, giving the students the chance to “Pay It Forward” by extending a kindness to strangers. Mlle Tanaszczuk and Mlle Sutherland's students initiated a penny drive, enlisting the entire school to collect pennies to adopt a family at Christmas time. The students collected a grand total of $761.44!

  13. Write to Give This year, Mme Macoretta’s class helped to publish “The Top 8 Books Recommended by Kids,” and were the top sellers for the fall print. The Write to Give Program supports the World Teacher Aid Organization, founded by a Grand Erie teacher. Students across Grand Erie cooperate together on the writing and publication of books.

  14. Rotary Classic Run Every Spring, the Rotary Club of Brantford hosts the “Rotary Classic Run”, as one of their biggest fundraisers. This year, we have over 70 students (and many of their parents and friends!!) walking / running in the Rotary Classic on May 15th to support all the community initiatives of the Rotary Club.
