Import Window Programs whose files can be converted into a RootsMagic file. GEDCOM file is a universal way to transfer data between programs. PAF will be the most common. The file will be on the Flash Drive. click
Selecting PAF File Open Window Selected the down arrow in the Look In: box. From the dropdown, selected my Flash Drive. Searched in my Flash Drive and selected the file I wanted to import. With the file name in the File Name Box, I can Select the Open button. Click
Options for the File Give the file a name. Default Location is My Documents. Choose date format. If you want a number after the name. I like surnames in upper case and make sure LDS support and “new” FamilySearchsupport are checked. Select OK button click
Import Start Window Import is taking place as you see the numbers change. Imported and 63400 records in 8 minutes. click
Finished Import The Look of RootsMagic. Search for our Timothy Phelps. click
Search Menu Select Person List from the Search Menu. click
Search Window Search Window Record Number to Find window appears. Enter the RIN – 60359. click
Result of Search Timothy Phelps now appears. Select the Select button. click
Family View Changed from Pedigree view to Family view. The gray tree says that Timothy Phelps is not synced with newFamilySearch. To begin the syncing process – select the gray tree. click
Match Window FamilySearch Matches window with sign-in. click
Match Posibilities Two matches – green is positive, yellow is possible and red is not a match. Select the spyglass to see more detail. click
Compare Data Your data is on the left and FamilySearch is on the right. Scroll down to see other data. click
Bottom Portion And with this view we can say – this is a match. This window is just for comparing your record with the newFamilySearch. Select Close click
Indicate a Match Back to the FamilySearch Matches window. Select the record as a match by checking the box next to the record. Then the Match with FamilySearch button becomes available and select that button. click
Make Sure Window Window appears for you to make sure that you want to say that this is a match. Just select the Match Checked Person button. click
FamilySearch Matches Window Redux Come back to FamilySearch Matches window and searches for other matches. The one that was synced has a blue tree by the name. Just Close this window. click
Back to Family View and Synced Timothy Phelps is synced and blue tree at the end on his box. Select the blue tree. click
Move Data Window Select the data on the right that you want to move to your record. Options once an item is selected: (1) add as a new eventon RootsMagic (2) Dispute the entry in newFamilySearch or (3) Replace the data in Rootsmagic. Once you select OK, the data is moved to your record. When you have move the data that you can on the screen, scroll down to get more data. click
Link Others Continued moving LDS data to my record. From this Window, you can also link (sync) others of the family. Link (sync) is just moving the PID (KN92-WWY) to your record. click
Completed This just establishes a link between your person and newFamilySearch. The Spyglass will give you a summary of the data for that person. When trying to link two person to the same person in you file, you get a warning that the two persons will be combined. Your can add persons to your file as well. click
Finish Timothy LDS data completed for Timothy Phelps. But with the links now established, the rest of the LDS data for them can be accomplished. click
