  1. What Do You Know of Hijab Fashion? Does the term Hijab Fashion or Hijab fashion Trends ring in any bells? For starters let’s concentrate on the etymology behind the word Hijab. ‘Hijab’ as most of you might know, comes from the Arabic root word ‘hajaba’ which simply means partition. The other connotation stands for a screen or a curtain. So as per the Islamic diktat a woman is supposed to cover herself modestly wherein hair coverage has been hinted in the text and has now come to be the common understanding amongst various clerics and all and sundry. So basically Hijab attempts to define the modesty of a woman by covering her hair and strictly prohibiting women from exposing their bodies. It also work on a psychological level for men too, when it asks men, “to lower their gaze and guard their modesty”. So it’s safe to say that Hijab has many layers to it and clothes form just one aspect of it. And now this term has snowballed into meaning headscarf in the popular understanding. Though men too come under the sharia law to observe hijab, it has never garnered as much attention. Hijab for women, earlier used to have a lot of stigma attached to it owing to various cultural stereotypes and laws but now it has slowly begun to be seen as trendy or a fashion fad where more and more girls are attempting it. Thanks to various creative designers and young girls who are attempting to introduce more life into the black cloak by assimilating popular motifs, prints, cuts and styles from various other cultural ensembles. Thus the term ‘modern hijab’ is a far cry from the stereotyped imagery of a dull black cloak and rather integrates women with their understanding of the cloth on their body. This hybridity of various cultures and faith has led to many ancillary industries on the parallel like for example the ‘halal make-up’ or the headscarf lines. And who can forget the second most popular search Engine in the world Youtube where scores and scores of women give out Hijab tutorials by introducing quirky and fancy ways of doing their Hijabs.
