Strategy for improving wheat production • IDENTIFICATION OF BLOCKWISE CONSTRAINS LIMITING PRODUCTIVITY AND PROPAGATION OF SUITABLE CROP PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGIES. • APPLICATION OF GYPSUM FOR AMELIORATION OF SOIL AND IN AREAS IRRIGATED WITH MARGINAL QUALITY GROUND WATER. • FARMERS TRAINING CAMPS : DISTRICT, BLOCK AND VILLAGE LEVEL TRAINING CAMPS ARE BEING ORGANIZED TO IMPART THE LATEST TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW TO THE FARMERS. • PROMOTION OF RESOURCE CONSERVATION TECHNOLOGIES VIZ. LASER LEVELING, RAISED BED PLANTING, STRIP TILLAGE, ZERO TILLAGE AND HAPPY SEEDER FOR TIMELY SOWING AND RESIDUE MANAGEMENT. • TIMELY AND ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF QUALITY INPUTS VIZ. SEEDS, FERTILZERS AND WEEDICIDES. • SEED REPLACEMENT WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON SEED GRADING AND SEED TREATMENT. • EMPHASIS ON BALANCED USE OF NUTRIENTS ON THE BASIS OF SOIL TEST AND STRENGTHING OF SOIL TESTING LABORATORIES.

Seed-Village Programme • ONE VILLAGE PER BLOCK HAS BEEN SLECTED UNDER SEED VILLAGE PROGRAMME. i.e. 140 VILLAGES • 50 FARMERS PER BLOCK HAS PARTICIPATED IN THIS PROGRAMME IN ALL 7000 FARMERS TOOK PART IN THIS PROGRAMME • THE AREA COVERED WAS 1400 HECTERE • 49,000 QUINTAL OF SEED HAS BEEN RODUCE AND EXCHANED WITH OTHER FARMERS

  25. AGRICULTURE EXTENSION • State has a well established network for providing agricultural extension services to the farmers in the Department of Agriculture as well as through 15 KVKs. However, due to financial constraints the vacant posts (around 40%) have not been filled. An exercise for restructuring the Govt. department is being carried out and the vacant posts are likely to be filled thereafter. • The exiting staff is well trained and experienced in dissemination of agricultural technologies. However, for further capacity building regular training programmes are being organized at PAMETI. The staff is also regularly deputed for training courses organized by PAU and various ICAR institutes as well as Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Govt. of India. • Kissan Call centre is working successfully and 14399 calls have been received at level–I & 638 escalated at level- II since January 2006. The major topic of the calls were:-

  26. AGRICULTURAL MARKETING • The State has a well established marketing infrastructure for the purchase of major crops (viz. wheat. Paddy and cotton etc.). There are 144 regulated markets in the State. In addition, 519 sub yards and about 1500 purchasing centers are opened during the main marketing seasons. • APMC act has been amended to permit setting up private marketing • infrastructure. The rules to regulate such markets are being framed. The • incentives to be provided to such investors are decided by the State • Govt. on case to case basis.
