Setting The setting is in New York City, the time would be around the 1960’s and it’s a big city for the main character and it shows two sides of the city. If the setting was any different it would probably be a different story.
Conflict The greasers are determined to keep the Socs at bay. This man vs. society because it’s a whole bunch of people involved like Ponyboy, Johnny, Two-Bit, Darry, Sodapop, and Dally.
Summary of Plot Ponyboy is a greaser and he and his friends go try to keep the Socs at bay. Until one night when Johnny hurts a soc and he and Ponyboy run away.
Theme ‘ “ You’re outa your territory,” Johnny warned in a low voice.’ • Pg. 2 ‘ We get Jumped by Socs.’ • Pg.3 ‘ I’m not saying that either Socs or greasers are better; that’s just the way things are.’ • Pg.11 ‘And you can’t win against them no matter how hard you try, because they’ve got all the breaks and even whipping them isn’t going to change that fact.’
Point of View The point of view is to stand up for yourself. It helps the reader because if you don’t stand up for yourself you’ll get bullied all the time. And if the author chose a different point of view it would probably be to never give up.
Symbolism I think it would be a horse. Because I think horses are brave, but scared at the same time. Like Ponyboy, he’s brave and scared at the same time because he has to fight Socs.
Recommendation I recommend this book because I think it’s really cool that Ponyboy gets to stand up for himself. You also get to see abunch of falshbacks in the book to tell you how it happened. it’s a story worth reading.
