  1. Research Education Oral Presentation Investigating the Effects of Facebook on the Social Health of RI Year 1 Boys. Group:6 Class: 1E Name: MuhdAkmal, 19 ( Group Leader) MuhdRasydan, 22 MukundBala, 23 Ng Louie, 24 Teacher Mentor: Mr Edmund Chow

  2. Introduction Overview Background Objectives, Hypothesis and Explanation Description

  3. Overview

  4. Background

  5. Objectives, Hypothesis and Explanation • Objectives To find out if the usage of Facebook affects the social health of RI year 1 boys. • Hypothesis • Explanation We have chosen this topic because many Singaporeans have been affected by Facebook(E.g. being cyber bullied or getting addicted to Facebook games)Thus, I hope to raise awareness about it by researching into it and presenting my findings, and in so doing, help those affected.

  6. Description

  7. Research • Procedure • Methodology • Results • Discussion • Analysis • Application

  8. Procedure • We did a PI to enable ourselves to identify what we wanted to research about and analysed it, before taking out some of the good points from each PI and compiled them into a Group Project Proposal (GPP). • To get more solid evidence, we conducted a survey with RI Year 1 respondents and did a survey report. • In order to reinforce our findings, we conducted an interview with Ms Jamie Ng, a counselor in Raffles Institution and did a interview report.

  9. Methodology

  10. Results • 80% of respondents use Facebook. • More respondents said that they felt positive after using Facebook. • 56% of respondents said that they became withdrawn from others and that it cause misunderstandings among friends and family. • 44% of respondents said that it cause indifference in attitude within family. • Most respondents use Facebook for either 1 hour or less or more than 8 hours a week on average

  11. Discussion

  12. Analysis

  13. Application

  14. Conclusion • Self reflection -Problems encountered and solutions -Limitations and delimitations -Better approach to problem -Future extension for project • References • Acknowledgement

  15. Self reflection Problems encountered and solutions We had not narrowed down our topic enough. Thus, we were not able to get focused results. Thus, we had to narrow it down to our current one. Some of our survey respondents did not really take the time to answer our questions. Thus, some surveys were just a clump of scribbles. So, we had to conduct those few surveys again with different respondents. Another problem was that we did not have enough time to meet up. Even if we had free time in the afternoon, they do not coincide with each other so we could not come together to discuss our work. Thus we divided the work.

  16. Self reflection Limitations and delimitations

  17. Self reflection • Better approach to problem

  18. Self reflection Future extension for project This research could be conducted on a more wide scale basis. Instead of RI Year1 students, it could be teenagers in Singapore. Opinions can also be taken from the point of view of parents so that different perspectives can be acquired. A survey can be conducted on 50 respondents for very diverse opinions on this issue.

  19. References

  20. Acknowledgement We would like to thank Mr. Edmund Chow for his guidance and useful opinions, our fellow classmates for sharing their thoughts about our project and giving us improvement points, Ms. Jamie for giving us an insight on this issue and giving us invaluable information to aid us in our work and, last but not least, our survey respondents for giving us their honest answers. We appreciate everyone’s help. Thank you, RE Team 6 class 1E
