    27. 27 Gay Nell is here today to tell you about Pre-PAC AAFCS has embarked a very ambitious program You will be proud of the results Pre-Professional Assessment and Certification Program (PrePAC) Increase focus on credibility in education; 2006 reauthorization of Perkins funding called for increased accountability. AAFCS Credentialing Center is a 3rd party entity so has the appropriate “arm’s distance” to be a credible agency for this purpose. 35-year old accreditation program and 18-year old certification program. Systems, professional staff and experience in assessment development and delivery. Contacts in the industry of FCS content areas to truly fulfill the purpose of career and technical education programs – preparing tomorrow’s workforce. They contribute to accountability They are good for the students They will give our programs recognition by industry, parents, and the general public. They will help to justify funding for Family and Consumer Sciences programs. They will increase the vitality of the programs. And, certifications will make it easier for students to articulate with colleges and universities. Other than the fact that pre-professional student certifications and competency assessments are mandated by Perkins 2006, they are also very important to our students. They contribute to accountability They are good for the students They will give our programs recognition by industry, parents, and the general public. They will help to justify funding for Family and Consumer Sciences programs. They will increase the vitality of the programs. And, certifications will make it easier for students to articulate with colleges and universities.

The Project Steering Committee was polled as to which content areas they wanted to target first. The Project Management Team made the final decision. As a result, Financial Literacy and Security was the first exam to be developed. 1st 9 are to be developed, piloted and available for delivery by Spring 2010. Gold standard quality Computer-based testing Multiple choice 70 items on each exam Varied cut rate scoring at levels appropriate for passing and certifying (by institutions for credit by exam) Rigorous cognitive complexity mix – (40/30/30) National, state and local data reports promoting program improvement and accountability.There are 11 general career areas targeted for the development of assessment and preprofessional credentialing.
