HB 5: District Considerations and To-Do • Ensure special education staff members receive the same training as general education district staff on HB 5 • Coordinate with general education counselors on the new PGP requirements; focus on incoming 8th graders; Compare to current transition planning requirements • Identify district courses ARD committees can substitute for foreign language requirements • Review CTE and CTED options in your district • Watch for SBOE and Commissioner rule writing – Public Comment period in December • Watch for TEA communication regarding opportunities to participate in the STAAR-Alt redevelopment • Attend Leaving a Clear Trail, check LiveBinder frequently: www.bit.ly/gradguide

No More 9xxx Codes! • Entered Grade 9 in or after 2011-12 • Use C022 Table Service ID code • Use Unique Codes for EOC courses • Use 8xxx codes for local credit • Entered Grade 9 prior to 2011-12 • Use Unique Codes for EOC courses • May use 9xxx/8xxx codes • Districts may choose to use only the C022 codes for all grades/cohorts
Class of 2013 Service ID Codes (C022 Table) Unique Code • Unique Codes should be used for ALL students in ALL grades for courses with an EOC • Courses taken prior to 2012-13 do not have to be renamed using the unique codes and standard abbreviations (e.g., 9543678R = Applied Eng 2) • Districts may choose to include Service ID Code on the AAR, but must include either the full course name (e.g., English Language Arts 1) or the abbreviation (e.g., ENG 1)

SB 1226 • Relating to the establishment of an employment-first policy and task force to promote competitive employment opportunities that provide a living wage for people with disabilities • Key Points (School impact) • Ensure that all working-age individuals with disabilities, including young adults, are offered factual information regarding employment as an individual with a disability • Ensure that individuals with disabilities are given the opportunity to understand and explore options for education or training, including postsecondary, graduate, and postgraduate education, vocational or technical training, or other training, as pathways to employment • Ensure that the staff of public schools, vocational service programs, and community providers are trained and supported to assist in achieving the goal of competitive employment for all individuals with disabilities • The executive commissioner shall establish an interagency employment-first task force . . . to promote competitive employment of individuals with disabilities and the expectation that individuals with disabilities are able to meet the same employment standards, responsibilities, and expectations as any other working-age adult.
SB 45 • Relating to the provision of employment assistance and supported employment to certain Medicaid waiver program participants • SB 45 - Key Points: • Employment Assistance, defined as "assistance provided to an individual to help the individual locate paid employment in the community" • Supported Employment, defined as "assistance provided to sustain paid employment to an individual who requires intensive, ongoing support to be self-employed, work from home, or perform in a work setting at which individuals without disabilities are employed."
