Key words • Zygote: The name of the first cell making up the baby. • Embryo: the name of the baby in it’s development. • Foetus (Fetus): the baby after the embryo stage. • Placenta: The placenta is an organ that connects the developing fetus to the uterine wall • Amniotic Sac: The amniotic sac (also bag of waters) is the sac in which the fetus develops in amniotes. • Amniotic Fluid: Amniotic fluid or liquor amnii is the protective liquid contained by the amniotic sac of a pregnant female. • Umbilical Cord: In placental mammals, the umbilical cord is a conduit between the developing embryo or fetus and the placenta.
Week 4 • The fertilized egg is called the embryo. The egg has started to develop.
Week 5 • The embryo is about 7mm long.
Week 6-7 • The embryo is now 8-10mm long now.
