Fund for Women • The mission of The Fund for Women: Through collective philanthropy, the Fund for Women invests and advocates by bringing together our knowledge, passion, and commitment to empower women and girls to achieve their potential. • Beliefs • We believe in the responsibility of all women as philanthropists. • We believe that collectively we can accomplish more than individually. • We believe women and girls have intrinsic worth and potential. • Established in 1993, now more than 1,600 Founders • Awarded more than $2.0 million in grants over 23 years

The Grant ApplicationCriteria and Guidelines • REQUIRED Criteria for Grant consideration • Project proposal that addresses the needs of DELAWARE women and/or girls • Documentation of Agency’s exempt status under section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. • Detailed description of project budget, not organization’s budget • Application e-mailed with attachments included (preferably .pdf) • Must be received by January 29, 2016 • Timely receipt of final evaluation (if prior recipient)

Rating Criteria • The Fund for Women focuses its grant making on programs relating to health, wellness and life skills that lead to future economic self-sufficiency for girls and women in Delaware. • Many programs could lead to future economic self-sufficiency, including arts, sports, mentoring, education, food, financial literacy, clothing, jobs training…… • Remember our mission: to empower women and girls to achieve their potential.

  6. We look at: • Need and value of service offered • Clear goals and objectives • Clear description of project needs and how it will impact the lives of recipients • Reasonable allocation of resources

  7. We look at… • Sound methodologies • Plan for staffing the project • Plan to measure results • Overall value • Proposal is clear, organized and complete

  8. We look at… • Identified source for participants in the project • Collaboration/Leveraging (with other entities) • Innovation/Creativity/Uniqueness • Number of people impacted • County/Counties served

FFW Exclusions • Funding for individuals • Capital funding • Debt reduction • Endowment campaigns • Requests over $15,000 • Request from an agency that received prior FFW grant and failed to submit a timely final grant evaluation of the project • Agencies that have received grants in three consecutive years

Project Name, Service Area & Request • Project Name: • 1-2 sentences, e.g., Emergency food and housing assistance for low income women with children    • Project Service Area: • Statewide New Castle County Kent County Sussex County • Funding amount you are requesting for 2016 from The Fund for Women (Maximum = $15,000) • Funding is for ONE year; no multiple year grants

Your Project • Describe the project • Clear, concise description • Overview of the project • What do you plan to do? • Who is going to manage it and be accountable for results? • How are they going to do it? • How will the lives of your beneficiaries be improved? Remember – total application not more than 3 pages!

Project Need/Target Population • What is the need you expect to fill with this project? • Why are you doing this? • What need does this project address? • Describe your target population and how you intend to reach them. How many individuals will directly benefit from this project? Of those benefiting, what percentage is female? • Who will benefit from your program? • How will you recruit them for the program?  • Be realistic – match your program to your capacity  • We look for the majority of participants to be female or directly help females

  14. Measure of Success • How will you measure success? • How will you know if the project has been successful? • Summarize key milestones that are expected to occur. 

  15. New Question • Explain how your project will empower women and girls to achieve their potential. • How will your project help participants become: • self-sufficient • independent • able to take care of themselves: financially, emotionally, medically, etc.

  16. Collaboration • Please indicate any collaborators with which you are working and the role they will play.    • Are you working with any other organizations? • The government? Corporations? • Churches? Synagogues? Mosques?

  17. Your Budget • Provide a Detailed Project Budget • Show clearly and specifically the costs that will be covered by a Fund For Women Grant, e.g.: • ______________________________________________ • We do NOT want your agency budget, only this project’s budget

  18. Who are You? • Provide a BRIEF mission statement and BRIEF history of your agency

New Volunteer Offer • We now have the option for you to request volunteers from over 1,600 FFW Founders • We added a new, optional, page at the end of the application for you to describe your volunteer needs • If possible, we will connect you with a Founder who can help fulfill that need • If interested, fill out the page and submit it with your application. • No guarantees

Submission Process • APPLICATION AVAILABLE AT • http://www.delcf.org/ffw • If possible, save as an adobe acrobat file (.pdf) • E-mail the application with attachments to: • Grants@DeFundforWomen.com • Be sure to save the file with your agency’s name -- e.g. Housing Help-FFW 2016 application • Attachment to be submitted with application: • Letter documenting 501 (c) (3) status • Address questions to Suzanne Feaster, Grants Chair at grants@DeFundforWomen.com

  21. FINAL WORDS Please keep your application to no more than 3 pages, no smaller than 10 point type. The instructions page and optional volunteer page do not count as part of the 3 pages Our volunteers read from 60 to more than 75 applications each year Please remember to add your organization name to the file name when you start writing the proposal ONLY electronic copies will be accepted
