Committee Work • Produced Science Standards for all students • Active involvement • Excellent discussion • Incorporated feedback from public and experts • Had a three member minority report
Conceptual Framework Components • Strands (4) • History and Nature of Science • Physical Science • Earth Science • Life Science • Sub-Strands (20 total of all strands) • Standards (100 total all strands) • Benchmarks (300 total all strands)
Example • Grade level - 3 • Strand – Earth and Space Science • Sub-Strand- The Universe • Standard- The student will understand the characteristics and relationships of objects in the solar system • Benchmark- The student will know that planets look like stars, but over time they move differently than stars.
Requirements • All standards are required for all students. • Standards have been established for all grades k-8 and are not graded at the high school level. • Students will study all four content strands throughout the grade levels. • The science standards do not prescribe courses at the high school level.
