Tonight’s Agenda • You should be in your child’s first period class. • You will follow your child’s daily schedule. • Thank you for being here!
Student’s Agenda • Tests and events entered each day during AA period. • Students should fill out agendas each day. • Check to see if they are doing this! • Rules and dates of events are included.
Reading • Grading • Comprehension of stories read in text. • Moodle and My Big Campus • Writing responses to what student have read. • Vocabulary • Accelerated Reader (15% of grade) • Students already have Reading Range and goals.
Accelerated Reader • STAR Test taken at the beginning of each quarter to establish a reading range. • Students are assigned a Reading Goal based off of their STAR test scores. • Annual Progress Reports send home with Report Cards. • Diagnostic Reports sent home with Report Cards. • Goals to be met the Wednesday before the end of each grading period (Oct. 2, 2013).
Success in AR • Choose book in reading level. • Read same book as a friend. • Write 2-3 sentence summary for each chapter on a flashcard. • Don’t wait until the last minute. • Read 20or more minutes a night. • Read nonfiction
Rewards for AR Students current on AR goals are rewarded with: • Extra Credit • Gym days in Advisory • End of nine weeks treat • Candy, Beverage, Prizes • Possible Electronic Day

Books with Textbook Series • Leveled readers go with each story. • Lessons and vocabulary same. • Reading: Partner, individual, guided, popcorn, readers’ theatre, etc.
Vocabulary • Very important part of the Reading program • Generally 10 words, definitions, and pictures
Grading Scale 90-100% - A 80-89% - B 70-79% - C 60-69% - D 0-59% - F Weighted Grades 15%-AR 20%-Projects 30%-Homework 35%-Exams/Tests
