My vision for the program– To establish clear lines of communication between the three schools. • Larger cohorts in all stages • Quite different from that of Jan and Adam, but ties in well with what we want to achieve. • My learning journey – share my challenges and own discoveries. • Web design – Just have a go! • Support from Web services and other DET employees… • Secure browsing, its implications and teething hassles • Learning from the students • Professional reading – Professor Alan Luke QUT • How this relates to our 3 year plans & ASR • Show school’s internet links on next slide
Web pages – 3 schools linked • Jerangle..\..\..\My Web Sites\web page Jernagle PS\index.htm • Bredbo..\..\..\My Web Sites\Welcome to the Bredbo Public School Web Site.htm • Numeralla..\..\..\My Web Sites\Home Page.htm JERANGLE PUBLIC SCHOOL LEARNING TOGETHER
Brenumerangle! Staff Communication Page • Need training, in order for us to be abe to access and up date as needed. • I came up with the name… Any suggestions?
Kid's Page • Kids webpage • Still a little tricky to access • Am looking at local server to run it from Student Communication Page
What can we do through these links? • Forums – on shared topics between schools • Chats – for fun and learning using topics based on our Cogs • Emailing – an integral part of our literacy. Checking regularly and communicating to each other, staff and friends • Instant messaging versus more ‘traditional’ email
Big posters Work with Jane Carroll – Local author A taste so far
Academic Partner • Dr Kathryn Moyle - Associate Professor at UC • Areas of expertise: • ICT in schools • Leadership and learning with ICT • Teaching and learning with ICT • Curriculum and assessment • Cross curriculum issues
Kathryn’s Role Assist the 3 schools to develop: • a deeper understanding of quality teaching approaches • action research & action learning strategies • refining plans • the evaluation of the program
NSW Department: Expectations of academic partners • External mentor - Kathyrn • Fostering professional learning • Focusing planning • Building understandings of action learning strategies • Supporting processes of reflection
What are quality learning environments? • Teachers have high expectations of their students • Classrooms foster respect and engagement • Learning is authentic ie links to students’ lives • Outcomes expected from students are rigorous – Use of rubrics a very handy tool in this for planning and assessment
What is action learning? • Professional learning based around real opportunities for those involved • Cycles of inquiry: • Identification of goals • Development of an action plan • Implementation of the plan • Sharing and describing the outcomes from the plan • Reflection and review of plan and processes which inform future plans • Fostering professional learning partnerships
Linking Literacies: ICT & literacy • Learning with ICT has the potential to engage students in their learning • ICT is suited to teaching and learning where specific skills or information are to be taught • Integrating ICT into teaching and learning requires students to specifically exercise the literacies of reading and writing
