  3. IB at HPSH • 52% of students take IB prep or IB Diploma level classes • Applying for MYP status • DP since 1994 - steady growth of 12 exams in 1995 to 387 exams last year • See IBO ppt

Welcome all, support all in the IB program If students have a hard time in IB prep classes, look at strategies and look for supports, then make choices Supports: After school tutoring in Library - M, W, Th - Tutoring during Advisory by 11th and 12th graders - AVID IB curriculum will be taught in all grades and levels by 2010 Relationships with MIC, IGC, and other international minded groups Creativity, Action, and Service a part of IB students’ lives Vision/ Mission of HP

Diploma, Honors, or Certificates? • Enrollment in IB classes the most important benefit • Certificates - take exams in 1-3 classes (some credit available) • Honors - 4 exams, 75 hours CAS, TOK, Speech - more credit available, and HPSH recognition guaranteed • Diploma - 6 exams, 150 CAS, TOK, Extended Essay, more credit guaranteed, and HPSH recognition

  6. What kind of credit? • Diploma: Uof M, 30 credits Northwestern - 4 credits for HL, 5 or higher UBC, Carleton, Grinnell, U Madison, also • $$ U of Arizona - 75% scholarship, U of Nebraska - 100% • McGill - recognition in acceptance and scholarship

  7. Honors • 4 credits per HL exam, depending on score and college • 2 credits at some schools for SL exams • Recognition in admissions, place in TOK class and Honors assembly senior year

  8. Getting to the Diploma or Honors • See scheduling worksheet • Minimum requirements: World language level 4 by 12th grade, and Geometry in 9th grade

  9. Navigating Health, FACS, and PE • 1 semester of each is required for SPPS diploma • If taking World Language and Music all 4 years, may be difficult to schedule • Work with your counselor as you choose the options • (see handout)
