What is the Call of Duty Endowment (CODE)? • CODE is a non-profit public benefit corporation which funds agencies working to help soldiers transition to civilian careers after their military service. • AMVETS is grateful to have received a grant from CODE to expand our Career Centers across the country. AMVETS Career Center: Goals • Open 20 Career Centers nationwide by the end of 2013 • Place a minimum of 200 veterans in jobs by the end of 2013 • Enhance AMVETS Warrior Transition workshops by adding a career component. • Measure outcomes and Best Practices to be shared with other organizations and agencies. AMVETS Career Center Post Mission/Goals • To work towards assisting 20 veterans in their jobs search by the end of 2013 • Conduct outreach to the community to find potential employers • Report daily activity to the AMVETS CCRS • Find volunteers to help staff the AMVETS Career Centers • Operate the Center a minimum of 4 days a week, including evenings and weekends TM Powered by:
AMVETS Headquarters Provides Posts • $5,000 stipends to help out the volunteers of the Career Centers with meals and gas • Two computers and a printer to equip your AMVETS Career Center • Professional promotional brochures that will help create awareness in the community • Daily telephone and internet support to your post with the Career Center Specialist from AMVETS headquarters. As of Today AMVETS has: • Opened up 19 career centers in 13 states • There are 373 veterans in the Career Center Reporting System • 24 veterans have been placed in jobs. • Held a Warrior Transition Workshop in CA and have scheduled 2 more for the fall in DC in Oct. CT in Nov for females veterans. • Established the Career Center Reporting System
Career Center Success Stories • Mr. Bailey went from being homeless to earning $19/hr as an electrician • Career Center helped him with his job search, resume writing, transportation issues and clothing.
Career Center Success Stories • Mr. German was laid off with a newborn baby at home, he had no phone or computer to help with his job search. • The Career Center helped him look for work. The volunteer at the CC received phone calls for him from potential employers. He now has a full time job as a landscaper.
Career Center Success Stories • Mrs. Kauzlarichwas a house wife until the age of 57 when her husband, also a veteran, lost his job. • Career Center helped to train her with computers, was signed up for the VRAP program and found a part–time job to help with the bills.
