3. This Year’s Classes: • Writing • Literacy/Social Studies • Math/Science • Specials

4. Class Placement: • Students were placed in classes according to 4th grade EOG scores • All classes are on grade level • Some classes are faster paced than others • All classes cover the NCSCOS • Groups are flexible and fluid: students can be moved • Movement will occur based on teacher observation, class performance, class participation, and formal and informal scores • Before a child is moved, parents will be notified

5. First Quarter Math Focus: • Number Puzzles and Multiple Towers • factors • prime factorization • multiplication • division

6. First Quarter Reading Focus: • Novel Studies • Heritage Unit • Skills Study • Literacy Lab • Will occur during Workshop • Will be pulled out • Run by Instructional Assistants • Skills, Guided Reading • Fluid Groups • Writing Focus: • Writing Process

7. First Quarter Science Focus: • Weather and Climate Unit • First Quarter Social Studies Focus: • Geography • Native Americans • European Explorers

8. Parent Assistant: • View your child’s attendance, assignments, and grades, and other important information • Your password and username are the same as last year.

9. Food Policies: Due to allergies, we are a peanut free school. Please do not bring nuts of any kind in to the school. When bringing in items for birthdays, class parties, etc. please only bring store bought items that include a label detailing ingredients.

10. Grade Level Notes: • Thursday Folders- • Due back by Monday of the next week • Send back the stapled packet of graded papers • Sign top sheet of packet and return whole packet

Student Birthdays: • Due to switching classes, birthdays will be celebrated in homeroom at 8:00am if you are sending a store-bought snack from home. • If you purchase birthday items from the cafeteria, then the birthday will be celebrated with your student’s math/science class in the cafeteria during lunch.

12. Williamsburg Field Trip: • May 2-4, 2012 • Chaperones will be notified by September 10th • First payment due September 15th – this ensures reservation • Total payment: $299.00 for each child and $299.00 for each chaperone • 5 payment dates: • Thursday, September 15 - $50.00 • Friday, October 14 - $50.00 • Tuesday, November 15 - $50.00 • Thursday, December 15 - $50.00 • Friday, January 13 - $50.00 • Wednesday, February 15 - $49.00 • Checks payable to: McKee Road Elementary

13. 5th Grade Williamsburg Trip: Help Sponsor a Child for Williamsburg! Due to the hard economic times, some students may not be able to attend our Williamsburg trip due to financial struggles. If you feel that this is something you can help with, please send a donation of any amount to McKee Road Elementary, with Williamsburg Donation written in the Memo line. Thank you in advance for your support!
