Presentation content interoperability metadata schemes rules for their filling knowledge organization systems authority files resource classification systems
Interoperability- a brief revision • definition: • the creation of information systems as well as organization culture should be managed so that the exchange and the repeated use of information resources on all levels would be ensured to the highest possible extent[MILLER] • a broadscale term, which includes areas from data structure via searching for net sources, to their naming including service architecture. [LAGOZE] • the ability of systems, information and communication technologies and working processes which support these systems, mutually share and multiply use data and knowledge[ARMS] • + on-line without necessity of further handling with them[ANDREJČÍKOVÁ]
Interoperability – a brief revision • levels: • organizational • technical • semantic
Metadata a metadata schemes • definition: • everything we can get about any information object regardless of the level of its aggregation [GILL] • describe basic characteristics: • content • context • structure
Metadata and rules in memory institutions institution type metadata schemes rules and models libraries MARC formats ( also XML base) AACR2, RDA ISBD FRAD, FRSAD, FRBR (FRBRoo) GAAR archives EAD ISAD, ISAAR museums and galleries VRA Core CDWA CCO universal DublinCore CIDOC CRM
Semantic interoperability achievement on the metadata scheme level [CHAN - ZENG] • methods in three groups: • scheme level • record level • repository level • the most used methods: • derivation • application profiles creation • mapping • using of a mediator, framework or register • etc. • [CHAN, L. M. – ZENG, M. L. Metadata interoperability and standardization : a study of methodology. Part I]
Conceptual models • FRBR • 1997 - FRBR – 1st version • update version FRBR - 2009 • aim: to create a generalized bibliography domain view which would be dependent neither on any formats used for recording and exchanging of catalogue records nor on particular implementations • three entity groups: • results of the intellectual effort • responsibility for products in the first group • entities which express the subject of the products identified in the first group • FRSAD, FRAD
Conceptual models • CIDOC CRM • common conceptual model for the achievement of the advanced information integration • aim: exchange and information sharing in heterogeneous cultural heritage resources • version 2010: 90 classes, 148 properties • describing through events – temporary entities • FRBR + CIDOC CRM = FRBRoo
Project: Authorities in the environment of museums and galleries – interoperability with the NK ČR • NK ČR = National Library of the Czech Republic • requirements of museums, archives etc.: • for authorities • deeper information content • better elaborated mutual relations (conceptual model) • user friendly (not insist on MARC) • interest focus: • museums – persons and mainly subject terms • archives – corporation bodies • preservationists – geographic terms
Project: Authorities in the environment of museums and galleries – interoperability with the NK ČR • investigator: CITeM, Moravian Museum in Brno • aims: • functional cooperation model when creating and using national authority database • harmonization possibilities used in local thesaurus and dictionary variations • to create and keep service capacity for national authorities administration used in museums and galleries • restrictions: • personal authorities
Project: Authorities in the environment of museums and galleries – interoperability with the NK ČR • changes: • separate database virtually extending national authorities records by further information fields • creating relation from all identifiable entities (places, corporate bodies, persons, terms) used in the particular personal authority record to individual authorities records • describing relations among related data (dates, places, corporate bodies, persons, circumstances) through so-called event construction that is consistent with the conceptual model CIDOC CRM (ISO 21127:2006) • relations to supplement information (especially picture) through URL • resources citation in the form conformable to ISO 690 that can be directly used for publication creating • resources citation connected to the central shared citations catalogue that allowed unified bibliographic description for multiple usage without work multiplicity
Project: Authorities in the environment of museums and galleries – interoperability with the NK ČR • Added museum fields: • all the fields used by libraries are maintained • heading (100), property (678), resource (670), see (400), see also (500), url (856), note (680) and others • added simple fields: nationality, sex, CV • added complicated fields: • resources – citation according to ISO 690 • key words – relations to subject authority records • events – relations to places, dates, persons, corporate bodies (structural, machine-readable, parallel to CV, correspond to a conceptual model, interconnect authority records among one another)
Project: Authorities in the environment of museums and galleries – interoperability with the NK ČR • pilot solution: cooperationCITeM - Cosmotron • separate database for MA (museum authorities) • synchronization with NA (national authorities) • MA=>NA via Z39.50 (small amount, „container“) • NA=>MA file changes once a week • z-client (non-user friendly) • on-line editor • browser • web services • XML structure
Project: Authorities in the environment of museums and galleries – interoperability with the NK ČR • pilot solution: cooperation of four museums and galleries • over 3000 personal records in museum authorities • 314 new personal, 94 new corporate, over 100 new geographic and almost 100 new subject authorities in National authorities files of the Czech Republic • 198 corrected records in National authorities files of the Czech Republic • tested communication with Demus (SW for a register of museum collections)

And what about bibliographichic records? Vieme odpovedať na otázku typu – do koľkých jazykov bolo preložené dielo autora xy?
