Our Mission Our goal is “to ensure that each student is known well at school by at least one adult who is that youngster’s advocate (the advisor), to guarantee that every student belongs to a peer group, to help every student find ways to be successful within the academic and social options the school provides, to promote communication and coordination between home and school” (Stevenson, 313).
Objectives Provide each student with an advocate to whom they can turn to for advice and support. Provide academic guidance that aims to support and encourage students while they are in school. Encourage self-awareness and ownership for decisions. Provide an environment that will foster belonging. Students will feel accepted and valued by their teachers and peers.
Advisor Roles GUIDE Communicate Be A Leader SUPPORT Build Relationships Understand
Program Design Advisory will be held 3 days each week. Monday and Wednesday (8:00 am- 8:45 am), and on Fridays from (2:00 pm- 2:45pm). Monday and Wednesday will be used for discussion sessions and time for homework. The time aims to provide a positive way of starting off the day for students. Friday will be a time for games and activities! The festivities will be held in the gymnasium or on the football field. This time is to be held in the afternoons so as to provide a great start to the weekend! Each advisor will be over 12 students for their entire time at our school (6th-8th grades).
Curriculum 6th Grade • Transition from elementary to middle school • Getting involved (Clubs, Sports, Etc.) • Learn the importance of collaborative learning • Create new relationships with classmates • Learn the meaning of “No” and understand consequences for personal decisions • “Self-Identity”, recognize who you want to be • Prepare to transition from middle school to high school • Celebrate who you are and what you have become • Prepare and plan for college and/or future careers • Self perseverance • We are “one family” and “learning community” • Self-advocacy and attitude 7th Grade 8th Grade All Grades

Honor Code The SOAR Advisory Program supports a climate of honesty, fairness, respect, responsibility, and trust. We encourage all students to take pride in their abilities while supporting and inspiring other students to achieve success. As a member of this program, I am committed to learning as much as possible, sharing my knowledge with others, and creating an environment of mutual trust and intellectual honesty.
