Introduction to the use of Hydrocarbon (R290) in foodservice refrigeration • R290 is not new technology… • The development of man made gases in the1900’s meant R290 declined until it was almost abandoned… • In the1980’s new methods of containing and utilising R290 were discovered • Making it a credible power base for modern refrigeration systems as the need for commercial refrigeration grows each year

What Iglu Cold Systems developed • All Iglu foodservice refrigeration products listed within the price list (excluding Blast Chillers and sushi units) can be specified in R290 • Giving for the first time, Foodservice related users the opportunity to have an R290 based alternative, to drive uprights and counters in the most compliant and energy efficient way

  5. Why Hydrocarbon (R290)? • R290 has a negligible direct impact on climate change. (so any leak or vent from a system has no impact at all) • R290 has a high energy saving capacity up to 30% • R290 is non corrosive

The Green factor • The use of HCFC and HFC gases have either been banned or are being phased out. • R290 is BREEAM compliant (building research establishment) • Global Warming Potential (GWP): R290 rating is 1 R404 rating is 3800 R134A rating is 1300 • Ozone Depleting Potential (ODP) R290non applicable No harm to the environment • Gas leakages are almost impossible to avoid at some point in any refrigeration system R290 is virtually “Non Polluting” • Dedicated push by most of Europe towards the abolition of polluting gases (man made) and the encouragement of non polluting gases • Either by taxation or rebate advantages • By force – imposing specifications for new builds only allowing the use of non polluting gas systems. • New legislation to be introduced by 2015
