  3. Process Step 1. Child is identified as possibly needing special education and related services. Step 2. Child is evaluated. Step 3. Eligibility is decided. Step 4. Child is found eligible for services. Step 5. Individual Education Program (IEP) meeting is scheduled Step 6. IEP meeting is held and the IEP is written. Step 7. After the IEP is written, services are provided. Step 8. Progress is measured and reported to parents Step 9. IEP is reviewed. Step 10. Child is reevaluated.

Different Disabilities • Autism • Deafness • Deaf-blindness • Developmental delay • Emotional disturbance • Hearing impairment • Mental retardation • Multiple disabilities • Attention deficit disorder • Other health impairment • Specific learning disability • Speech or language impairment • Traumatic brain injury • Visual impairment, including blindness

  5. Teaching a Child with a Disability Easy format to understand. Keep active. Keep order but do not be to strict. Keep parents informed frequently. Find something that the child is very familiar with.

  7. Statistics 2.25 million children with known learning disabilities. 62% of learning disabled students were unemployed one year after graduation. 35% of students identified with learning disabilities drop out of high school.

  8. Conclusion In the present day there are many children out there with learning disabilities and they need to be in a special education program of some sort. There has to be a lot of communication not only with the teachers and students, but also between teachers and parents. Overall more and more children are found to have learning disabilities and teachers and parents need to be thoughtful of this. With the help of parents and teachers the children of this nation will be better off and have a better chance of overcoming some of these disabilities.
