David Smith Assistant Principal 547-6014 Substitutes PLASCO and Tardy Process
Substitutes It is essential to the safety and educational wellbeing of our students that the substitute procedure is followed.
Reporting Deadline • Absences must be reported via AESOP by 5am on the morning of the absence. • Absences reported after 5am will not be recorded by the system. • Absences for appointments and the like, should be reported in advance of the date the sub will be needed.
I do not need a sub. • You must enter you absence, even if a sub is not needed.
POC for subs • Lorena – in the front office
It is easier to remove an absence then it is to find a sub at the last minute. • If you know in advance that you will be out, please enter the date early; months in advance is OK.
Personal Day • Request for personal days must be made 3 days in advance, via email to Mr. Simmons.
Tardy Procedure • Only minor changes. • Students who are tardy will come to your class with a printed pass that will look like a sales receipt. • Please make sure you collect these passes from the students. Do not allow them to keep the pass.
Check the name, to insure that the correct student is using the pass.
Check the time and date. It should take no longer than a few minutes to get to class and the date should be for the date used.
Check the reason for the tardy. This is just FYI. • A student may receive an excused tardy.
Each pass will have a message related to a consequence or other info. Again, this is just an FYI.
PLASCO merit system • We will also use the system to reward students for being awesome. • This should not be used for students who are following the rules. • Submit, Angela, the names of students who go beyond what is expected of them.
Some examples of awesomeness • A student, who instead of walks by trash, chooses to pick it up. • A student reaches out to a new student and helps them transition into Buff life. • A student finds a wallet, or purse, with money and turns it in. • A student volunteers own time to make HHS a better place (exclude if the student is working to fulfill hours required by an organization or admin.)

Nuts and Bolts Michell Edwardson Associate Principal
Opening Day • Check schedules and your roster the first day in all classes. Your roster should be the most correct source of who is assigned to your class. Do not allow a student to stay in your class unless they are on your Skyward roster. Send them to the correct class immediately.
Opening Day • Read your opening day procedures email but please do not print it out as it is only good for the first day of school. • Lunches will be dismissed by the PA system- schedule will be located in your folder.
Dress Code Student: There is a student dress code sheet in your folder. Please post this in your classroom. It takes the entire campus to enforce dress code so please make sure your know the expectations for the students. Teacher: District policy expects teachers to dress “above the level of the students” in such a manner to make it easy to distinguish teachers from students. Spirit days are the exception as we want the teachers to participate.
IDs • Teachers and students are expected to wear a photo ID daily. • On the front side of body • Between the shoulders • Above the waist
Attendance Take Attendance EVERYDAY beginning with the first day of school Day 1: If a student is on you roster but not in class- then mark them ABSENT in Skyward Day 2-3-4-5 etc: If a student is on your roster but not in class- Absent even if you have never seen them in class. If a student is on your roster, but is absent the first 4 days of school, please bring this to the attention of his AP.
Attendance • Attendance should be recorded each period and any changes made in Skyward by 3 p.m. • daily. • Remember, you must open and save each period, even if everyone is present.
Discipline Policy If you are using your CHAMPs effectively hopefully you won’t get to the referral stage however if you do have to write a referral remember that HHS school policy has several steps before a referral is written. One of the most important steps is that a parent or guardian must be contacted before a referral is written. Furthermore, the contact must be made in advance of the referral with enough time for the parent to have a chance to effect a change in the behavior.
Discipline Policy HHS’ discipline policy is in line with the district’s policy on keeping our parents informed about their student progress both academically and behaviorally. Refer to HHS teacher handbook for the policy
Electronics Policy Electronics should only be used in class for educational or instructional reason. Students should have their items turned off and stored by the time the tardy bell rings. The electronics policy is the orange sheet in your folder. Please go over it with your students and post it in your classroom. Remember, listening to music is not considered to be educational or instructional during your class. Together we all managed to curtail the students’ use of electronics in the classroom last year but we must continue to provide a united front. Teachers, this means your electronics should also be put away during class.
