Week of December 2nd-6th Mrs. Gibson’s Classroom News • Important Dates to Mark on Your Calendar • Great Bedtime Story PJ Drive (information will come home with report cards on Nov. 15th) Our goal is to have 100% participation. • Homework for the week is….. • Read for 25 minutes each night • Math homework due on Friday December 6th • Word Study Literacy- Introducing and exploring nonfiction books. Looking specifically at the parts of a nonfiction book. We will finish our week up by practicing how to reference the text in nonfiction. Word Study- Groups 1-4 will be working on short and long a vowel patterns including CVCe, CVVC –ai, and open syllable –ay. Group 5 will be working on silent beginning consonants Kn, Wr, and Gn. Math- In math this week we will continue to work on place value activities, along with reviewing odd and even numbers. Lastly we will review coins and play collect 50 cents to end our week. Writing- Continue working on realistic fiction. This week we will focus on revising and editing our realistic fiction stories. Science- Review of all weather topics we have covered for this unit. Weather tools, reading temperatures on a thermometer, water cycle and weather vocabulary. We will have a weather assessment on Thursday December 5th • 12/2-12/20 – MAP testing window • 12/2-12/20– Reading 3D testing window • 12/2– SLT @ 5; PTA Board @ 6:30 • 12/5– Progress Reports go home • 12/6– Movie Night • 12/10– PTA Meeting & Winter Program @ 6:30 • 12/12– Staff Cookie Walk • 12/18– Pretzel Day • 12/18 & 12/20– Winter Parties • 12/3-- 1/3 – Winter Break • 1/6 – Classes Resume
