  1. How do stereotypes affect the way we think about real people?

  2. Stereotypes: what’s the problem? What are stereotypes associated with teenagers that you hate? Imagine some of theproblems you will face if you’re judged by those stereotypes. Think about some stereotypes that might be associated with you. What problems would you face if you were judged by stereotypes about your ethnicity, religion, gender, age, social position, etc.?

  3. What’s the big deal about a “cowboy” costume? Nothing. But, what if just because you were from Texas people were always confused because: “Where’s your cowboy hat and boots? You don’t ride horses and yell yeeeehaw?” I’d hate that. Wouldn’t you?

  4. It doesn’t necessarily make you a terrible person to wear one of these costumes. It’s not about being politically correct, or people getting offended over a costume. But we have to consider . . .

  5. How do stereotypes affect the way we think about real people? The University of Ohio cautions students about creating a costume out of someone’s culture.

  13. Even if it’s your own culture you’re making fun of . . . do you want to perpetuate ignorance about yourself?

  15. And then the internet got involved

  16. This is a joke version of the meme, but it does raise an important question: The sexy nurse? The sexy lawyer? The sexy zombie? The sexy ninja turtle? Sexy Pikachu? These are all costumes this year I saw while shopping with my daughter. I didn’t see one “sexy” man costume. Not even a sexy teacher outfit . . . Why do you think that is?
