  5. CHARACTERS

  6. CAT IN THE HAT AGE RANGE- 14-18 MALE / FEMALE TENOR or SOPARNO NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO ACT, SING AND BASIC MOVEMENT. • The Cat is the spunky, fun-loving narrator of the show, Who leads Jojo into an adventurous world and serves as his guide. Throughout the show the cat plays various different characters. Needs to have great comic timing.

  7. HORTON THE ELEPHANT AGE RANGE- 14-18 MALE BARITONE NEEDS TO BE STRONG SINGER/ACTOR • A sweet and kind creature who tries to protect all of the Whos. Horton wants to help anyone and everyone, and is so caught up in trying to save the world that he is oblivious to the fact that Gertrude is in love with him.

  8. GURTRUDE MCFUZZ AGE RANGE- 14-18 FEMALE SOPRANO NEEDS TO BE A STRONG SINGER/ACTRESS CHARACTER VOICE IS A MUST • Adorable bird-girl who is in love with Horton. Gertrude is self-conscious of her one-feathered tail and longs to have a more elaborate and showy tail in order to impress Horton.

  9. JOJO • A young boy from Whoville whose “thinks” often get him in trouble! He is creative, rebellious, and energetic. AGE RANGE- 8-12 MALE/FEMALE STRONG SINGER/ACTOR TENOR or ALTO

  10. MAYZIE LABIRD AGE RANGE- 14-18 FEMALE MEZZO NEEDS TO BE A STRONG SINGER AND DANCER • Lively and energetic bird-girl who has the biggest tail of them all! She is sassy and bold, and is always on the go. She is the leader of the “Bird Girls”.

  11. MR AND MRS MAYOR • Mr. and Mrs. Mayor are the mother and father of JoJo. Mr Mayor does not know what to do with his son who always disobeys him. Mrs Mayor is also struggling with what to do with their rebellious son. AGE RANGE- 12-18 TENOR AND MEZZO MUST BE STRONG SINGERS AND ACTORS

  12. BIRD GIRLS • Three bird girls who hang out with Mayzie. They are colorful, fun, and energetic. Also could be described as a “Greek Chorus”. They at time narrate the story in the Cat’s absence. AGE RANGE- 12-18 MUST BE ABLE TO HARMONISE. STRONG SINGERS/DANCERS

  13. SOUR KANGAROO • She is loud, boisterous, and sassy! The other animals in the Jungle of Nool always listen to her, and she acts as their leader throughout the show. AGE RANGE- 14-18 FEMALE MUST BE A STRONG SINGER/ACTRESS

  14. WICKERSHAM BROTHERS AGE RANGE 12-18 3X MALES NEED TO HOLD HARMONY MUST BE ABLE TO SING AND BASIC DANCING Three monkeys in the Jungle of Nool. They are mischievous and like to create trouble. Many other animals are afraid of them.

  15. GENERAL GANGUS KHAN SCHMITZ AGE RANGE 12-18YRS MALE NEED TO PROTRAY A STRONG GENERAL MUST BE A STRONG SINGER/ACTOR The leader of the Army in Whoville. He is loud, commanding, and sometimes come across as mean.

  16. OTHER SMALL ROLES YOUNG KANGAROO- She is just like her mum, full of attitude and very loud and sassy. (will be auditioned for) Thing 1 and Thing 2- The cat in the hat’s side kicks. We are looking for two small cast members to play these characters. Need to be trained in acrobatics or Gymnastics (will be auditioned for) -Yertle the Turtle -The Grinch -Vlad Vladikoff -Cindy Lou Who (these characters will be picked from the ensemble once the show is cast).

  17. SHOW DATES Saturday 11th January- Bump in Sunday 12th January- All day Dress rehearsal on stage Monday 13th January- Preview Show Tuesday 14th January- OPENING SHOW! 10.30am Wednesday 15th January- Show @ 10.30am Thursday 16th January- Show @ 10.30am & GALA NIGHT @ 7.30pm Friday 17th January- Show @ 10.30am and 7.30pm Saturday 18th January- Show @ 10.30am and 7.30pm *if you are auditioning you MUST be available on all of these days!!
