Articulation: A state effort • Since 1990, the Maryland education community has focused on removing barriers to a seamless educational experience for Maryland’s citizens, regardless of where they enter the educational system. The goal has been to facilitate a smooth progress from public schools and private career schools to undergraduate collegiate study to graduate schools. • The work of the nursing programs set the stage for many of the articulation models within the state
Future of Nursing • 2010 IOM Future of Nursing report highlighted the need to increase the number of baccalaureate prepared nurses at the bedside • 80% by 2020 • Built on Dr. Linda Aiken’s seminal work on the impact of baccalaureate prepared nurses on patient outcomes in hospitals
Academic Progression • Many innovative academic progression models have been developed and implemented in state • The Maryland RN Articulation model does not reflect current practice
SIP /NSPII • A NSPII grant helped support the matching funds requirement by RWJF for the SIP grant. Both contribute to the statewide initiative to revise the Maryland Articulation Model
Articulation Workgroup • Presented the proposed work of the grants to review and revise the MD Articulation Model to Maryland Deans and Directors group September of 2015 • Volunteers were selected with representation from community colleges, 4 year colleges/universities, geography and constitutency
