Our Country-TURKEY Geographical Location • Turkey is a Eurasian country that stretches across the Anatolian peninsula in western Asia and Thrace (Rumelia) in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe. • Turkey borders eight countries: Bulgaria to the northwest; Greece to the west, Georgia to the northeast; Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran to the east; and Iraq and Syria to the southeast.

  3. Population • The population of Turkey is 70.5 million according to the results of the General Population Count made in 31 December 2007.

  7. Our City-Trabzon • Trabzon is the emerald green city of The Black Sea coast. Trabzon is the largest port of Black Sea. It also known as Trebizond or Trapezus. Trabzon's history goes back to the 8th century BC, Milesian emporia. During the World War I it was captured by Russians but it has been taken back to the hands of Turkey by Treaty of Lausanne. In the Byzantine period caravans from Persia were passing through the Trabzon to sell their goods to Europe. Trabzon is still a busy trading centre.

  8. Population in Trabzon According to the year 2007 population census, 975,137 people were living in the province. Of these, 478,954 (49.12%) were living in the larger towns. Those living in villages and rural areas numbered 496,195 (50.88%).

At every province, there exists the provincial national education directorate and at every district excluding the centre district, there exists the national education directorate at district level. The national education directors in districts are responsible towards the provincial national education directors in terms of duties and services. They shall undertake education services on the basis of province and district. Provincial and district directorates shall consist of branches, bureaus, permanent boards and commissions according to the characteristics of the service.
