What are Deciduous Trees? Forest Regions Deciduous Trees • Temperate deciduous forest • Has a temperate climate • Plants must be very well adapted for climate changes Deciduous trees are those that lose their leaves seasonally or at maturity. When deciduous trees lose their leaves at a certain part of the year, this is called abscission. Many deciduous trees flower in the time they are leafless to increase pollination. • Tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests • Located in tropical and subtropical climates • Temperatures warm year round • Deciduous trees predominate in most of these forests http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1077982/The-autumn-leaves-red-gold---colourful-canopy-leaves-British-woodlands.html By: Mel Teasdale October 2010 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deciduous Example of a flowering Deciduous tree
WINTER FALL SPRING http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deciduous http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deciduous http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deciduous Fall is when the leaves of the trees begin to change colors because of a lack in supply of chlorophylls, showing less green, which leaves autumn colors. Leaves eventually fall off because the trees need to remove and save other elements, and they are no longer needed for winter as well. Trees begin budding , or flowering in the spring, after most of the cold has passed. The absence of leaves around the buds improves the transmission of pollen by either wind or insects. When the weather begins to get cold, and become winter, trees remove nitrogen and carbon from the foliage. These elements are removed to store them in the form of proteins until spring bloom comes around.
