The EDEN-IW Ontology permits queries to 4 databases These are integrated and mapped against each other The Ontology covers a significant number of water related indicators, Multilingual user interface, Queries in the current prototype is limited to the use of a single language.

Main Results • EDEN-IW DBs Specific Lexicon: • A reference multilingual list of basic determinands, impacted IW media, parameters, types of analytical fractions and measurement units. • Inland Water Domain Lexicon: • A general purpose, shareable reference background terminology of IW in four languages; • A set of synonyms in four languages; • A set of definition in English for the terms of the TRS.
The Future of the EDEN-IW TRS • Extension of the EDEN-IW TRS: • Waterbase terminology (already in progress); • Terms from other databases; • Terms from external relevant sources. • Applications of the EDEN-IW TRS: • Use, as a reference tool, of the EDEN-IW TRS by other institutions, projects (i.e. EMWIS - The Euro-Mediterranean Information System on the know-how in the Water sectorhttp://www.emwis.org), etc.; • Inclusion of parts of the EDEN-IW TRS into existing TRSs; • Inclusion of selected EDEN-IW terms into one or more Thesauri.
